Dybhavn Made Supreme Sacrifice PE LIM JACK, WELL KNOWN RAILWAY FIGURE HERE, RETIRES THIS YEAR After more than forty years of railroading, Lim Jack, who has been cook and steward on the car of the divisional superintendent out of Prince Rupert for over a quarter of a century and, as sruch, has become a very familiar figure all the way from Prince Rupert to Jasper, will re tire this June from the active service of the Canadian Na tional Railways on attaining the ; age of sixty-five years. Born at Toysun in Canton Province, China, "Lim," as he Ui familiarly known, came to Canada in 1900 and had a small tailor shop on Carroll street in Vancouver for a couple of years. In 19C3 he took up cooking first for a family and then for a hotel. His railroad career started in 1904 when he went to work on the car of the super intendent of -the Canadian Pa clfic Railway between Fort William and Winnipeg. Two years later he made a trip home to China, returning in 1907, wheh he became cook on the car of the Grand Trunk PaciHc superintendent from Port Arthur. When a train overturned on a new piece of track but of Port Arthur and Llm made his escape from his burning car with clothes afire he resolved to quit railroading and proceeded to Toronto. Leaving the C.P.R., Llm Joined the Grand Trunk Pacific at Winnipeg In 1910, being assigned to the superintendent's car at Edmonton. Kilpatrick, N. B. Walton, I. A. McPherson, W. H. Tobey, James Clark, O. A. Glay and C. A. Berner. Lim recalls having cooked for such distinguished personages as Sir Claries M. Hays, Sir Wilfrid Laurier and W. H. Tart. Jle .has a wife and son and daughter in China but, owing to .the war. It Is a long time since he has heard from them. It Is Lim's ultimate hope to go to China to spend his de cllning years but that will not be until after the war Is over and meantime, he Is quite con tent to remain In Prince Ru pert with his friends.
