Ray Smith originally came from San Francisco where he established a good record m Cali fornia fight circles. Since his ar rival in Prince Rupert, he fousht Billy McCann of Ketchikan to a standstill for the. Alaska welter weight crown last September and successfully defended his new title in a return match in Octo ber. Recently. Ray accompanied two lads of the Prince RuDert Athletic Club, Jordan Smith and Bobby Anderson, to Vancouver, where they participated hi the Sun Golden Gloves tournament. Because of a rule in the NWSC tournament prohibitinc anyone with professional boxing experience in the fights, although it is permissible for them to act as seconds, Smith will be on the sidelines acting as coach for the local boys. As was previously announced. this tournament is open to United States and Allied military personnel as well as civilians. The following eight weignt divisions are included in the novice and open competitions: Flyweight, 112 pounds. Bantamweight, 118 pounds. Featherweight, 126 pounds. Lightweight, 136 pounds. Welterweight, 147 pounds. Middleweight, 160 pounds. Light-heavyweight, 175 pounds. Heavyweight, 175 pounds up.
