Certainly minimum terms must be those of the .Cairo declaration: Surrender of all islands in the Pacific taken by Japan since 1914, all territories stolen from China (Manchuria, Formosa and the Pescadores), the liberation of Korea, and measures to "restrain and punish the agression of Japan." To implement the last, much more will . doubtless be demanded. But for the Allies to formulate and offer more specific terms up to now would have been highly inexpedient. To have done so would have ignored Russia's great potential stake in any Far Eastern settlement and possibly jeopardized whatever co - operation Russia may be prepared to give. The discussions at Potsdam might well go beyond Russia's participation in the war against Japan. Russia's part in a peace imposed upon Japan a peace which the Japanese may have already gone a long way toward accepting is a topic quite consistent with the logic of recent events. Now For the Home Front . Even though the war in Europe is over, the cheering which followed the Victory is dying down and our gallant troops are returning in large numbers, there are still fronts which must be strenuously maintained if all we have fought for is not to be PURE WOOL krs e y COATS and JACKETS Made of a light-weight, pure wool material, Kersey Cloth garments are ideal for fishing or hunting and extremely practical as a working garment. These fronts include those involved in want and fear, so. often enumerated as poverty, sickness, old age and unemployment. These can, to some considerable extent, be alleviated by legislation, and no doubt the measures now in force or being put forward will do much to improve the lot of the lower income groups. But there are other fronts not so easily relieved by legislation. Many are the evils which spring from the imperfections of human nature which constitute fronts on which we must all fight. These are the fronts of misfortune and maladjustment, delinquency and crime, vice, viciousness, and avarice. When we cease to war on these fronts, the enemy wil rush in like a flood and no change of the economic system or beneficent legislation will keep us from ultimate destruction, as complete as would have been the loss of the war, if the Home Front against these evils is not maintained with all our powers. Because of the strain of the war years and the wonderful response which has been given to the war effort, and to all great forward movements for social betterment; because the people are tired of regulations and restraints, and because human nature calls for relaxation, the Home Front is seriously threatened by subtle suggestions that strenuous effort is no longer necessary and now we can let things take their course. Nothing would be further from the truth than to say we have won all for which we fought. No! We have only won the right and the opportunity to bring into being the kind of world we want. The old world is dead but the new world must yet be won.
