POPULAR GIRL DIES SUDDENLY; WAS TO MARRY Many shocked and sorrowing friends attended Tequiem mass in the Church of the Annun ciation at 8 o'clock this morn ing for Anna Marie Bird, 24 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Bird, 774 Alfred Street, who passed away sudden ly in Prince Rupert General Hos pital Saturday night. The popular young woman died as a result of a heart seizure after undergoing an operation on Wednesday. Celebrant at this morning's service was Rev. Father Carroll, assisted by Rev. Father Racette. Born at Cutknife, Sask., 24 years ago, deceased came to Prince Rupert with her parents in 1940. Prior to her death she was employed as stenographer in the Dominion Fisheries office here and had previously been employed by the Rupert Peoples Store, Northern B.C. Power Com pany and the united States Army. Miss Bird was engaged to be married to William Long, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Long, who will accompany the body east to Cutknife where inter ment will take place. Survivine are her parents, a brother Jackie and a sister, Mrs, Fred Hill, in Prince Rupert and five sisters at Cutknife, Sask. E. Beerling of this city, became ihe bride of Able Seaman Henry Wells, R.C.N.V.R.. eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry T. Wells of West Vancouver. Very Rev. J. B. Gibson, the dean, officiated. Entering the Cathedral on the arm of her father, and to the strains of Mendelsohn's "Wedding March," the bride was beautifully attired in a full-length gown of white bridal lace, with sweetheart neckline edged In pleated net, over taffeta with lace mittens to match. Her hip-length veil of embroidered net was held in place by Queen Elizabeth style headdress. Her bridal bouquet was of American ueauty roses and white carnations and she wore the groom's gift, a dainty wristwatch in yellow gold. A unique part of the bride's accessories was a string of pearls and lace handkerchief worn by the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom respectively at the time of their marriages.
