While the Cubs were sweeping both ends of a double-header from the Clncin natl Reds, the second place St. Louis Cards dropped a decision to Pittsburgh. The Cubs now need only one more victory or a St. Louis defeat to clinch the flag. Chicago took their two games 3-1 and 7-4 to give them a two-and-a-half game lead over the Cards. Thqy were the twentieth and twenty-first Cub wins out of twenty-two games with Cincinnati. The Pittsburgh victory over the Cards was by a 5-2 margin as Elwood Roe limited the Redbirds to three hits.
