Roosevelt and at the same time boosting the fund for the national infantile paralysis foundation. Similar parties were held throughout the United States last night but the International aspect of the local affair made It unique. More than 2000 persons were present. The great recreational hall where the event took place was handsomely decorated with the central feature a huge drawing of the President which was illuminated by a spotlight. The ceiling was centred with a large Stars and Stripes flag while the Canadian flag also had a prom- Inent place. Streamers of red, pay. canopy effect and the whole scene was very pleasing. The nroceedings onened with a Grand March led by the port commandant. Col. H- J- Mellom, and Miss Burda, Olof Hanson M.P. and Miss Frances Moore, Mayor and Mrs. H. M. Daggett. Commander and Mrs. Wood, Col. C. C. Ferrie and Lieut. (Nursing Sister l Clarke and Flying Officer R. W. Peel. Col. Mellom. in a brief address, welcomed the euests and spoke of the significance of the occa sion. Olof Hanson, speaking on behalf of the city of Prince Rup ert and the Dominion of Canada, referred to the happy International aspect of the event and expressed hope of an early end of the war after which the only enemy to be fought would be disease. Refreshments were served in the balcony, taking the form of grape punch, orange Juice, sandwiches and cake. The Recreation Hall had been cleared of bleachers and con tained hundreds of leather- upholstered chairs interspersed with divans and easy chairs. The entire mezzanine was devoted to refreshments, long tables being well stocked. The officers committee consisted of Major Louis W. Beck, Atlas Boiler Works Electric, Oxygen, Acetylene Welding, Blacksmith, General Repair. PHONE RED 884 MRS, R. H. HAYTER DIES IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Elsie Agnes Hayter, wife of Russell H. Hayter, of 1344 i Overlok Street, passed away; last night in the Prince Rupert General Hospital at the age of 30 years. She had been in hos pital for the last Week. Born In Manitoba, Mrs. Hayter came to Prince Rupert two years ago. Mr. Hayter is a welder at the dry dock. Surviving are her husband and son Perry, age 10. The dance was the second in a series of Acropolis Hill parties on behalf of the March of Dimes Fund Raising Appeal. The final ball will be held at the Acropolis Sergeants' Mess this evening.
