The proceedings opened with the saying of Grace by Archbishop W. M. Duke of Vancouver. After the joint toast to the King and the Holy Father. Rev. Father W. F. Lantagne acted as toastmaster. The first speaker was Acting Mayor William H. Brett, on behalf of the city, who welcomed the new cleric. He was sure he would be a worthy successor to the late bishop who had so endeared himself to the community. He hoped there would be many amicable and pleasant associations. Bert Young spoke on behalf of the parish of the Annuncia tion. Under the new Blshon the spiritual and material welfare of the vicariate would be assured. The people of the parish extend ed their affectionate best wishes for many years of fruitful labor. Father Scannell of Ottawa, provincial of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, paid high tribute to Bishop Jordan with whom he had been in close association for eleven years. His ability and leadership were recognized. Here in Prince Rupert it would soon be realized that he was a man of strong principles' and convictions. "I give you," said Father Scannell in proposing the toast, a man, a priest and a bishop." A bishop must play a dual role that of churchman and citizen said Archbishop Duke. He was sure that Bishop Jordan would gain the same affection and esteem as his illustrious predecessor had won.
