G. Archibald, M.P., and Mr. Franks shared the platform, speaking to an audience of 60 people. Mr. Frank criticized the present foundation of Canadian political economy, claiming that the younger and newer socialist movement proposed to change It by taking over the key industries of the province and running them for the benefit of the people. Mr. Frank said that socialism tionfti oil, electric power and breweries, stating that in the case of the latter, the C.C.F. proposed to take over the breweries and to run them without advertising. After controlling the sale of liquor, and educating th people against the mis-use of it a plebiscite would be held tc determine the best method of handling the liquor question. Mr. Frand said that socialism offered a higher standard of living for all and held up Saskatchewan for an example. In Saskatchewan, lie said, conditions were much worse at th? time the C.C.F. entered power than they were in B.C. Campaigning in behalf of the C.C.F., II. G. Archibald, federal member for Skeena declared that he had come west rather than remain in Ottawa during the session because it was here that his supporters needed him most and that -:i future he would come to them whenever and wherever they needed him most. Mr. Archibald then described Parliamentary procedure and discussed the departments of Defence and Natural Resources, touching on the atomic bon-d and the possible revolutionary effect of the application of atomic energy to industry. Asked for a statement on C.C.F. policy, Mr, Archibald said that theyfcrppdsed id take bysr the luiuuriuig, inning ana mimr industries and operate.' them in the interests cf the whole neonle. The money, he said, would come from the issuance cf bonds. There was a lively., discussion of the Japanese question and also on, the prerwar sale of .Iron and other scrap to Japan. Chairman of, the meeting was .T. Brigps and Mrs. J. S. Black, C.C.F. organizer from Prince Rut pert, played the accompaniment to the singing of "O Canada." FRONT BUSY Lnlhusiasm at "jf,-' Conrad j Street and Seal Cove Weunesaay evening was a busy one on tne Prince Rupert recrea tional front. At the Y.M.C.A. the six to 12 year old boys turned out in great numbers and with undiminished enthusiasm. The youngsteis were eagerly on the floor before the scheduled time. After being brought to order, the class was started oil with marching exer cises, followed by boys'- fundamental gymnastics. After this, the time was spent In relay races. By way of variety, tumbling and obstacle races were introduced. As in last week's session, rivalry ran high. At Conrad Street School the opening session of the centre was attended by 18 boys of from six to 12 years of age. Marching exercises and fundamental gym. nasties were engaged in and, following this, the class divided into three groups for mat tumbling. Instructor Ted Parkhouse and his assistants, Bill Collins and Don Wilson, reported that several of the boy3 showed' excep tional ability in mat tumbling and should form the basis' of a really good ,?ym team. Seal Cove boxing classes 'were b?gun last evening with a good attendanze. Unfortunately box ing Instructor Beggs was unable to be there for the opening. Feeling the show must go on. Miles McLeod of the provincial police, who has had a good' deal of -experience in physical training, volunteered to "pinch hit" for the regular Instructor. trated its power in the first three stanzas while a two-goal outburst in the final frame by the Barons failed to quite make the grade. Rookie Stan Robertson potted two of the Bears' 'goals and Les'Cunningham bagged two for Cleveland.
