the
VS.O.
bowling
alley
was
officially
closed
Sunday
night,
it
was
announced
yesterday
by
Frank
E.
Finnerty,
U.S.O.
director.
The
alleys
are
being
returned
to
the
owner,
Douglas
Frlzzell.
They
were
completely
renovated
only
last
August.
Many
structural
and
ornamental
changes
were
made
including
fluorescent
lighting
and
new
built-in
pits.
When
the
bowling
alley
opened
unde.r
U.S.O.
direction
on
June
1,
193,
until
last
night.
110,000
bowlers
and
135,000
spectators,
or
a.
total
of
245,000
American
and
Canadian
servicemen
and
women,
visited
this
U.S.O.
Club
No.
2.
During
the
alley's
operation,
leagues
were
carried
on
constantly
for'
all
branches
of
the
Allied
services
stationed
In
the
Prince
Rupert
area.
Many
friendships
were
developed
through
these
leagues,
Finnerty
said,
and
the
bowling
alley
was
truly
another
"House
of
Good
Nelshbors."
Operated
by
the
U.S.O.
as
a
separate
club
staffed
by
Army
personnel,
the
bowling
alley
did
not
diminish
frorn
the
general
US.O.
activities
at
the
main
club
building
but
acted
as
a
supplemental
program
for
the
men
and
women
during
their
leisure
hours,
Finnerty
said.
