Today in Sports U.S. Army-Coastguard Baseball GREAT PITCHERS' BATTLE WHEN ACROPOLIS DEFEATS KETCHIKAN When it comes to pitching artistry there have been few exhibitions to compare with the skill displayed by Tony Sanchez, of Prince Rupert's Acropolis Club, and Bill Haynie, of Ketchikan Coast Guard yesterday on Acropolis Hill as the pair amassed, a total of 45 strike-out victims in one game before a crowd of 1,500 fans. A mound duel between the pitchers was not halted ' until the 13th inning when plnch- hltter Randall singled home Kalinovitch to give Acropolis a 2 to 1 victory. Sanchez, who hails from Laredo. Texas, struck out 28 men and yielded only three hits and one walk in the prolonged fixture while his Ketchikan rival, Haynie, of Little Rock, Arkansas, fanned 17 and allowed seven blows. In every Inning except the fifth and seventh Sanchez whiffed at least two. It was planned to hold two nlne-lnnlng games but since the first was not over until 4:30 o'clock, the second was cut down to five frames.
