Munthe, presiding; with 24 members present, it was reported that the new furnishings for Cambral ward at the Prince Rupert General Hospital had arrived. These furnishings consisted of a dresser and mirror, night table with washbasin, overbed table, two sets of slip covers for easy chairs and drapes. The secretary read an interesting and comprehensive report prepared by the regent on the provincial annual convention held in Vancouver in April. A vote of thanks was extended to Mrs. Munthe for this splendid report. The membership was In complete agreement with a proposal to assist the Prince Rupert Recreational Council and represen- RUPERT'S - 3 Prince Rupert. B.C. tatives were appointed. It was agreed that the sum of $30 be donated to the frigate H.M.C.S. Prince Rupert to purchase added comforts lor the men. A committee has been formed to welcome and assist war brides on their arrival in Prince Rupert. A stamp convener" has been appointed to supervise the distribution of vacation stamps in aid of the Jessie Burke Cancer Fund. Assistance is again to be given the Civic Centre Carnival. In view oi the ciiapter's coming summer recess till September 11, War Convener Mrs. B. Thornstelnsson has distributed sufficient materials to enable the members to continue their work at heme on clothing for overseas shipments. The regular monthly raffle of War Savings Stamps was won by Miss Helen Valentine. The opening meeting on September 11 will be held at the j home of Mrs. B. Thorsteinsson. LABOR-PROGS STILL HAPPY Not Downhearted Even If They Were "Also-Rans" in Federal Election Race Although its candidate finished up in fourth place and evidently lost his deposit in the federal election campaign in Skeena, the local Labor-Progressive party is not downhearted. Indeed, it feels that, having started from scratch, it did not make too bad a showing at all. The local organization will be kept active for coming provincial and federal contests. At a meeting of the party held on Tuesday night, the day after election, Bruce Mickleburgh, the candidate and moving spirit in Labor-Progressivism here, reviewed the post-election situation and the future possibilities of the party in Skeena riding. The election had, at least, afforded the opportunity of establishing the party as an organization and making its alms and objects known to the public.
