SEEK SUPPORT FOR CARNIVAL'S MANY FEATURES Success in putting over the special features of the Civic Centre Carnival depends on the co-operation of the citizens of Prince Rupert, and, so far, the response has not been satisfactory, carnival executive members point out. Secretary George L. Rorie wants entries In the Northern B. C. beauty contest and he wants lots of them. So far he has three. "We should have at least a dozen entries from Prince Ru pert to compete In the local con test which will be held before the final contest. The interior towns of Smlthers, Burns Lake, Francois Lake and Prince George are showing great enthusiasm and, if we let them down, they won't think very highly of us," he said. "I want at least nine more girls to submit entries right away." Thp rnntpsr. is nnp In whlph trie girls can have a lot of fun with the opportunity of a trip to Atlantic City for the "Miss America" pageant without run ning the risk of any embarrass ment, he emphasized. Bicycle Race And Other Features- Neil McDonald, who is in charge of the bicycle race, is seeking entries. Confined to young people, the races will hold forth substantial prizes for the winners. Both boys and girls are eligible and there will be separ ate races for boys and .girls under 13 and in the 13-17 age group. The races will start at the carnival grounds, Third Ave. and Eighth St., proceed west to Fifth St., south on Fifth St. to Fraser St., thence west on Fraser St. to Eighth St. and back to the starting point. For the older age groups the course will be six laps, 'or three miles, while for the younger ones li: will be four laps, or two miles Enertles can be made either with Mr. McDonald or at the office of George Rorie. Thomas McMeekln, chairman of the tug-of-war committee, has heard Tumors that a certain group of heavyweights can out-cull any other combination In the city and he Is seeking entries to dispute that claim. The carnival committee Is offering prizes of $10 each to the winning team and $5 to the runners-UD. and Mr. McMeekln hopes that at least four teams of six men each will answer the call.
