The early stage of gonorrhea was explosive, painful and with definite symp toms. If not caught early it might well have serious compli cations with permanent damage. Syphilis, at the outset, was quiet, insidious and often unre cognized. First there was the sore at point of contact, then the spread through the bloodstream, the copper-colored rash over the body and later, maybe years, the affection of heart or joints or nervous system or, so often, the brain. The Importance of submitting to medical examination so that cultures or blood tests might be made to establish diagnosis was emphasized by Dr. Kergln. Syphilis mijht be completely cured if caught in time, the doctor said, but tic was skeptical about the speedy, almost instant cures which one heard about. Systematic and thorough treatment was more to be relied upon. At least weeks and possibly months were required and the treatment must be persistently adhered to if it was to be successful. Quite frankly Dr. Kergin admitted that he would not guaranteed sure cure of gonorrhea although, by the use of penicillin and the sulfa drugs, the chances are excellent. However, it was possible to definitely establish cure of syphilis. SPORT NEWS Basketball Buzz Sparged by Kicner who today probably nurses a wrenched neck as a souvenir of a successful bid to drop a goal late in the final quarter, the Acropolis team dominated every quarter but the third 'in Wednesday nights "A" league basketball. Kiener switched ends when he made a high jump during a toss, and landed on his neck with a jolt that must have dazed him, but did not put him out of the game. Acropolis doubled up on Port Edward during the rirst quarter to the tune of 12-6, and arrived at hal( time leading by a score of 28-14. Deitz and Swan-key led scoring for the Hill team, while Kctchmark was markes-man for the Port Ed's. Acropolis languished through the third quarter at a profit of only one point. During that time the visitors took advantage of the opportuntics offered and with foul shots and four counters built up ten solid ones to bring the third quarter score to 29-24. In a furious final 10 minutes of play Acropolis added 14 points while Port Edward achieved 11. Acropolis had a decisive edge in shooting When Booth School girls administered a 9 to 6 defeat upon Allies Wednesday night, It was High School's eighth straight win In the area ladles' league. In spite of tow scoring the game carried fast action and brought the climav of a 6-6 tie in the third quarter which did not dissolve juntil the final minute of the game. At half time Booth led 6-2, remaining static during the third and most of the last quarter until they put on the minor spurt which brought vic tory. Allies made a two point gain In the third quarter and a similar advance In the fourth.
