Andther Victory Loan Coming Tli,e war has been won but the victory is still a long way from being implemented "and there rare many costs of readjustment and rehabilitation, yet to be faced. Therefore, we must float another great Victory Loan, the date of opening of. which the Minister of Finance announces for October 22. Canadians; are, of course, too sensible to retain the thought that, even if they had ever entertained it, because the fighting of the enemy in a physical sense is over, there are no more costs to be met. Of course the cost will not be so great now. A statement of the minister of finance outlines some of the costs in support of his preliminary appeal to the people of Canada to rise to the occasion in this hew loan as they did so splendidly when there was the stimulus and spur of war to urge them. And, apart from all other reasons, one which may be stressed as of utmost importance is that Victory Bonds are still the best investment and the most profitable way of conserving our financial resources at a time when it may be more important than it ever was before that we should do so. In our own self-interest buying of Victory Bonds may well be, indeed, better business for us individually than ever before. Clear Target, Fire Straight . . . The President of the Trades and Labor Congress of Canada, through the Daily News, has delivered a Labor Day message to the people of Canada. It is rather wordy but the pith and burthen of it are simple and clear enough. He says that the people of Canada (and of the world; for that matter) need in the establishment of aworthwhile peace just two things work and security which two things imply the meeting of all needs requisite to human welfareamd happiness. The aim is simple and clear enough. Maybe if the fire was as direct and free of diversionary interests which, in the final analysis may be of little ultimate importance to any of us, the happy object might be achieved. (Nursing Sister) Beatrice Berner as' she concluded a tallr on overseas experiences before the Prince Rupert Rotary Club yesterday. Showing that she had been very observant during her travels In the course of jservlce, the popular local girl dealt' pH'n-cipally with experiences atid'im-presslons of ltzy where ' she spent from March of, last year to March of this year with Cana dlan General Hospital No. li. Lieut. Berner, who landed In Naples on arrival in Italy, told of the marvels of penicillin and the sulfa drugs as a result of the use of which the sick anil wounded In this war had a much better chance than In the last. She commended the work of ,the military doctors and the chaplains, Including Major Roy Durn-ford of this city who was among those she had encountered In Italy. The story of moving northward through Italy as the armies advanced proved interesting to the young lady's listeners. Points of interest visited In Italy included Mount Vesuvius with its vivid glow, roaring noise and peculiar odor, nature's disturbance being accompanied toy an air raid over Naples; the ruins of ancient Pompeii where her companion had .been Dr. Jam.es Stewart, former Prince Rupert boy, now an Army doctor; the Isle of Capri; the beaches of Salerno and Sorrento,' historic Rome, Including the Appiari Way, the catacombs, the Coliseum, Forum, Pantheon and cathedrals; Vatican City and, the paintings of Mlchaelangelo; the village of Asslssl, and the ruined yet sUU beautiful city of Florence. Italy was described as a land of contrasts with dire poverty and privation on one hand and luxury and extravagance on the other. But with all Us beauties, Italy or any country she had seen could not compare with Prince Rupert. "I was happy in the service but I can tell you I am glad to be home," she concluded.
