Well, on the basis of a preliminary report of the value of fish and fish products gleaned from fisheries District Two during the 1944 season which closed November 30, no one in Prince Rupert can afford to turn up a nose at the odor of fish. For it is the aroma of wealth. Preliminary estimates showed that fisheries district Number Two, of which Prince Rupert Is tlfc chief port, yielded more than $7,000,000 in wealth fish and fish products were during the 1944 season. Of this, $6,000,000 worth of landed from Canadian boats for direct distribution or processing in district Two. More than $1,000,000 worth was caught by American boats and processed in this district. Salmon, of course, headed the list with more than $4,000,000 worth being brought to canneries and freezing plants in the district. Halibut followed with a value of more than $2,000,000.
