Notes and Views of the COUNCIL'S IRE RISES AS WATER THE DAILY NEWS Report that the water level In .he city reservoir supposedly resting placidly near the top of .he tank had fallen to danger ously low levels had the usual pffect of arousing aJuermanlc ire at last night's city cfluncll On the basis of a report by City Engineer O. S. Hanes that between December 28 and Janu ary 2 water levels had ranged from 30 feet below the bottom of- the reservoir to a depth of about five feet, council members followed a recent suggestion from OUawa that they inform the army's Pacific Command en gineer officer that the reservoir was not being kept filled. The dty engineer returned City C negative reply when Alderman Hills a&ked if the cause of the decrease could not be put down to people leaving their house taps running during the cold weather. 'That pump was represented by the army as being able to keep the reservoir filled In all weath- j er," Mr. Hanps declared. "It has ! not done so." In answer to a question by an alderman Mr. Hanes said that he had heard unofficially that the Northern B.C. Power Company's Shawatlans plant had been running at full capacity "I believe that thatls the root of our trouble," Alderman Rud-derham commented. "When the Shawatlans power plant is running at full capacity it uses water thatlwuld -be going into the city mains." Mr. Hanes made his report to council at the request of Mayor Daggett. It looked for a time as though the higher levels of the city would be without water,"' the, mnvnr tnlrt Card of Thanks We wish to extend our heart felt thanks to all who so kindly assisted us and for the words of rympathy and beautiful floral of ferings extended at the death of our beloved mother.
