Labor Secretary Becomes Writer, Lecturer, After 13 Years in Cabinet WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 (API-Frances Perkins at 63 is embarking on a new career as. a',wrler and university lecturer. After 12 such stormy years as she weathered in the cabinet, most people would be glad to rest. But less than three months after she resigned as secretary of labor, Miss Perkins sailed for Paris to represent the United States at the convening cf the International Labor Organization. At the same time she began a weekly 500-word column to be distributed by the Institute for American Democracy. The Institute was founded two years ago to further unity among the American people. Mss Perkins' column, called Working It Out," and dealing with the relation of reconversion problems to unity, will be distributed to the labor press. "The column will cover anything I think labor will be inter ested in, including such legisla tion as comes up, Miss Perkins faid Just before she sailed. "The labor press is becoming more and more important as a liason be tween labor unions and the public". Soon after her return to the United States Miss Perkins will begin a lecture .series' on labor relations problems at.Radcliffe Univerisity. She said that she also received invitations to lec ture at other universities and probably would accept at least one. For the present she will continue to make her home In Washington, where she lives with her husband. Paul C. Wilson. financial statistician. Miss Perkins gives evidence of embarking on a new life in more ways than one. She has shed her famous three-cornered hat and donned a black beret. Her frock. on:e as sober and severe as a Judge's rcbe, Is now trimmed with an onen-work white collar backed with bright red. Her con-river. Is less measured now and liberally seasoned with smiles and jokes. ' Sea Cadet Orders K.C.S.C.tf. RECREATIONAL CENTRE NEWS Recreational Council l.s conducting a contest to find a short pithy abbreviation for the name "Prince Rupert Recreational Council." Entrants are invited to form a sharp appellative for the title and arrange It within or around a geometric figure and submit It as an entry. A cash prize of $5 will be given to the winner. Entries are being received by Miss F. Parker' up to November 4. The winner will be chosen toy. the executive of the Recreational Council. By way of suggestion, the Provincial Recreation Centre adopted the name "Pro-Rec" as their nickname, and it his proven very catchy. In fact, many peo ple refer erroneously to the ac tivities of the Prince Rupert Recreational Council as "Pro-Rec." activities. A distinctive emblem could be included, with a figure relating to health, ath letics, a civic emblem or to one of the malor Industries. A meeting of boxers, pros pective boxers, trainers and coaches to organize boxing has been called at the Seal Cove School on Wednesday nlzht. Plans for the winter boxing season will be drawn up.
