COLONEL WEED HAS BIG JOB Former Commanding Officer Here Now at Lellavrc One of the largest staging areas In Europe is now being operated by Colonel Thomas J. Weed, former commanding officer of the Prince Rupert sub-port of embarkation, now, port and district commander of Le Havre, France .Colonel Weed left Prince Rupert for his over seas assignment last October. Since the defeat of Germany, Le- Havre has changed from a vital supply centre into a vast staging area which will soon have a capacity of more than 16,000 troops. Eight camns are located there, each named after a popular brand of cigarettes. According to a recent an nouncement, more than 250,000 troops have already passed through this great French' port with more than 1,500,000 expected to move within the next six months. Ten months ago when Le Havre capitulated to the Cana- aian First Army, it was estimated that 70 percent of the city, and 100 percent of the port was destroyed. Within a matter of days after Its capture en gineers and Transportation Corps personnel had made the Inner basin of Lock Rockmount usable again and thousands of tons of supplies moved through the gateway.
