'EASTER CONCERT i CHARMS MANY . AT U.S.O. ClUB The individual artistry of three musicians In uniform charmed an audience of 100. mostly civilians, at an Easter Sunday afternoon musicale in the ballroom of Prince Rupert's US.O. Club. The program was the central feature of another of the XJS.O. Club's open nouse afternoons wmcn was taken advantage of toy numerous townspeople. The musical program was arranged by Miss Eva La Pierre and consisted of eight groups of selections by LAC Angelo Russo, violinist, LAC Robert Fleming, pianist, and Sgt. Harry Norman, U. S. Army, tenor. LAC Russo 's accomplished stage presence did much to warm the audience to the really excellent program. A former member of Luigi Romanellra Toronto orchestra, he obviously believes that a listener must be set at his ease to digest music. He dissipated formality as he prepared to present his first selection, 'In termezzo," by Kendall Burgess. He won the audience for all three artists when he rubbed his shining pate and remarked: "I do that to keep my long hair out of my eyes.' "Don't takfe it too seriously," he added. "Smile. It makes me feel good." With LAC Fleming as accom panist, he played "Intermezzo," "Chanson TrUte- by Tschai-kowsky, "La Paloma," "Mighty Like a Rose," and "Skip Caprice." the latter a gay, .brief composition by LAC Fleming. The seven numbers-presented by LAC Fleming revealed him to be a pianist and composer of fine sensitivity. His final group con sisted of two of his own composi tions, "Sonatina," in two move-1 Prince ments, composed- in Toronto in 1941 and "Spanish Banks," a short Impression composed In Vancouver In 1943. He began the program with ' two Bach compositions "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" and "Mortify Us By Thy Grace'presentlng a second group by Branms and a third by Debussy and Ravel. Well known to Prince Rupert music lovers Sgt. Harry Norman's rich tenor voice was heard in five songs. Beginning with the near morbid "Sombre Woods" by Lully, he succeeded in expressing in his second song the reverence of the "Lord's Prayer" by Malotte. In his second group -Sgt Norman presented the contem plative "My Friend" by Malotte. the zestful -I Love Llfef by Mana-Zucca and the negro narrative of "David and Goliath" by Malotte. He was accompanied by Pfc. Walter Roberts. Announcement Queen Mary Daffodil Tea, Easter Monday. Anglican Easter sale, April 5. C.C.F. Bridge. Drive every Saturday. W.O.T.M.
