SecwUtty and Qfiftontctaittf, FOR WOMEN "A genuine new deal for women, not merely pious and token concessions" As every woman knows, a lot has been said about the splendid contributions which women have made in many lines of national endeavour. But the King Government has side-stepped the issue when it comes to doing anything about the rights of women. 4 ' r 1 y John Bracken will give you definite action! vlt is the policy oj this party," be says, f'to see that women are given the opportunity to take their full place in the councils oj the nation, in the Cabinet, in the Senate and on government boards administering public business." John Bracken's policies for social betterment also reflect his awareness'bf the rights and wishes of the women of Canada. Perhaps the fact that he is a family man himself influenced nira as he shaped these policies, for they give Canadian women the assurance of economic security and better opportunities for their children advantages which women have always sought for themselves and their families. In short, John Bracken's objectives are the objectives of Canadian women everywhere. t-R To these measures John Bracken is pledged: To provide a uniform and comprehensive security plan for all Canadians, including extended unemployment insurance coverage, acd dent and sickness benefits, children's allowances, maternity benefits, widows' benefits, retirement pensions and increased old age pension at age 65. To set up a positive national health programme including improved nutritional standards, an efficient preventive health service and a contributory health insurance scheme. To provide financial assistance to enable young Canadians, according to their abilities, to receive advanced technical or professional training. No token gestures, these, but definite guarantees that the rights and aspirations of women will be backed by legislation when John Bracken takes up the reins of government 1 Only the Progressive Conservative Party has a practical program designed to cure the social and economic ills which women have long recognized and sought to overcome. Only this Party offers a genuine new deal to the women of Canada. EQUAL RIGHTS FOR WOMEN IN BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY The Progressive Conservative Party recognizes that Canadian women have earned the right to take their place, on equal terms, beside inenjn business and industry. It stands for the- principle of equal pay for equal work and equality of opportunity and treatment in other respects as between men and women. Taxation , and other reforms to encourage the establishment of new businesses will open to enterprising women new and better opportunities to engage in profitable business for themselves, and to play their full part in the business of the nation.
