In the heat of the argument that ensued when the referee expelled the captain of the Rainmakers from the game. Coach Bill yanked his team "rather than have them seriously injured in such a rough game." That fairly well sums up the type of game It was hard fouht and rough. With only 23 seconds left and the score standing at 43-42 for the Savoy, Coach Bill made his decision, much against the desire of both the fans and his own players. Both teams fought hard throughout the game and, from the opening whistle, it was close. Finishing the first quarter out in front H-10 the students went on to lead at the half 19-15. In the third quarter Savoy came roaring back and took the lead 33-30. In the last period, with all the .spirit of the two teams put into the game, tempers began to get short and, consequently. the play roughened uo. It was surprising that, In such a furious match, only 25 fouls were handed out by Rereree Fred Cal-derone and Umpire Sev Domin-ato, 15 to the High School and 10 to Savoy. High scorers were Ted Arney of Savoy and Mel Thompson of the Rainmakers with 19 and 18 points respectively. Two important factors brought on this win. One was 'the scoring spree put on by Ole S!atta and the other vjs :h? strong defence put on by the Co-op which held the usual big gun of Port Edward, Gurney, to a mere 9 points. It was Co-op out in front all the way but it was not until the last half that they were able to move well out In front. Leading 6-5 at the end of the first quarter Co-op lengthened the lead by half time to remain on top 18-14. Moving Into the third frame It was Co-op all the way with Port Edward showing very little of their usual fight. The fourth period opened up 28-20 for Co op with Slatta showing the way. Quite possibly Port Edward missed their defence man, Morvrn. who was forced to sit this game put on the bench with an in- ured leg. Johnny Meeker pulled the hat trick by making three of the Leafs counters The Montreal Canadiens won again by eking out a close 4 to 3 victory over Detroit Red Wings. Accordingly, the Canadiens still have their five point margin of leadership. Week-end scores were as follows: Saturday Detroit 3, Montreal 4 Boston 2, Toronto 5. The game was fast and well played with these Junior' teams almost stealing the show from the seniors. At the end of the first quarter Grotto was out In front' 4-3. Then, In the second frame they lnereYsed this' to 12-8. After he half time breather Watts and Nickerson got rolling and nosed out the Grotto to lead 19-17. The last quarter almost ended In a tie as the wall scoreboards showed that the score was t!ed up but, on checking, the referee found that the score was officially 33-30 in Watts and Nlckerson's favor. Once again Ray Spring of the CIcthiers was high man with 12 points and again it was Webster and Scharff who stood out on the defence. But the usual spark plugs for the Grotto, were very noticeable by their absence from the spotlight.
