Rupert's Case for Air Service (Continued from Page 1) requires a very heavy finan cial outlay. Obvious, therefore, is the advantage to not only marine parts dealers, but to the entire body of fishermen, of the introduction of an air express service daily from Vancouver. Engines may be stripped, a teleeranh or der dispatched to Vancouver, and practically any conceivable past secured for Installation within twenty-four hours. When the fish are running, a dif ference of one day may mean profit over the year for the fish erman, or a regrettable loss. Prince Rupert also contains several of the largest ice ani cold storage plants in the world HOW CAN I ? ? : By ANNE ASHLEY Q. How can I separate a water glas3 when it becomes stuck in another? A, Pour cold water in the upper one to contract, it, and then immerse the lower one In warm water to expand it. They can then be easily separated. Q. How can the skins from beets be removed very rapidly? A. Place the beets in hot water for a short time, drain off the hot water and Immediately fill the vessel with cold water. Q. How can the shiny parts of a garment be removed? A. Sponge ii with a solution of one teaspoon of ammonia to one quart of water. Then press on the wrong side. for the treatment .of the fish on arrival from the sea. In plants such as these, breakdowns of machinery could be disastrous because of the trmendous inventory carried. Again, the ad vantage of air transportation of replacement parts, and etc., Is obvious. Canneries, as a whole, are not in such critical need of our pro jected service except at times of tne salmon run into which their major annual activities is concentrated. However, thU point might well be understood at once: In the case of canneiies, although some two canneries are located within the immediate area, and five additional on the Skeena River, teh entire coast line for some 100 miles is dotted with these industrial plants. Again, because of the short ness of the fish run, It is vital to successful and economical running that the requisite key personnel have free access to these plants from head offices in Vancouver. Such, under prcs ent transportation conditions, is not the case; a fault which will be remedied with the Intro duction of our service. Altogether, therefore, in the entire fishing industry, there, is not one individual fisherman or company, operating in the area, to whom &t one time and r.nother, air transportation to Vancouver is. not a vital profit and-loss necessity during a single season, For the fishing industry as it is presently constituted in the Queen Charlotte Islandr tho situation is of double interest. Despite the fact that the ac tual marine activity surrounds the Islands, except in the case of some two moderate-sized operations, the industry has never concentrated ther;, at its logical geographic centre. Introduction of our service will permit the establishment there of new can neries, replacement parts busi nesses, ship repair plants, and all the other service normally subsidiary on fishing, and duo to lowered costs, will permit the treatment for shipment in the rrea mucn larger supp'ies of local delicacies such as razcr- sack clams, etc. LONE-HANDED HERO CANBERRA, Lieut. P. E Mason, R.A.N.V.R., has been in vested with his second D.S.C. for 'courageous and sometimes lone-handed work" as a coast watcher on Japanese-occupied Bougainville. His first decora tion was from the American Army, and to his knowledge, he is the only British naval officer to receive both decorations.
