Retirement of the team brings to an end a victory trail that was marked by such milestones as 10 wins offset by only one loss during the first half of the league schedule but which in latter days was buffeted by intra-league ciltlcism and fan unpopularity that sorely tried the spirits of the players. The move -ho unburdens Association President Art Murray of the embarrassment of being also a sponsor of a team. President Murray made the dis-bandment application to the dozen members of the executive, however, on grounds that, since his team lacked sufficient players, it would be wise to place the remaining ones at the disposal of the three other teams in the league, thereby strengthening therm New In a free-lance category, the former 99 Taxi teammates are available to the other "A" Icarrs and those that are not absorbed in that league will be able to enter the senior "B" group on application to the executive. t The dlsbandment of the 99 team brought into the.open one or the weakest points of the local basketball set-up, namely, the relatively .small number of . flayers suitable, for senTor "A" competition and the executive laid plans for the future correction of this condition. Recognizing the need to keep a constant flow of new players 1 coming up rrom the Junior ranks tiie meeting discussed plans to "create a larger reservoir of Junior players by organizing a house league in that group and (by possibly creating a basketball tfchool. In this way, they hope to gra-- dually brid;V the existing gap (between Junior players and the number that are now competent ifor senior "A" competition. , i. HOOP PLAY-OFF PUZZLE SOLVED How to conduct the play-offs in the senior "A" basketball league now that 99 Taxi, winners of the first half of the schedule, have disbanded, puzzled Basketball Association officials this-week, but they finally found an answer which they accepted tentatively. The play-off will be conducted on the basis of the results of th? second half of the schedule and probably will result in the two lower teams of the three-team league meeting in a semi-final series which wjil qualify the top team to meet the league winner in a final play-off series. Prediction came from Run Rcc director Nell Ros Thursday that gucn a aeveiotxneni is imriy vu ( result from a meeting of league officials which has been called for Friday night. One of the burdens borne by fho Awvlntlnn In recent months has been the variance 01 interpretations of the standard game rules placed by timekeepers and referees in the various leagues. "The Association has called a meeting of timekeepers and referees fcr Friday night in order to co-ordinate these interpretations of the rules so that they will be similar in all leagues," he said, "the suggestion has been made that the officials meet periodically to get the same slant on the rule bonk. This probably will remit in the organization of an officials' association." SCHEDULE FOR LADIES "B" BOWLS Section It January 23 Whirlwinds vs. Bankers, Dockettes vs. Revenu ers.
