EPOCH In Prince Rupert's transportation commences with' the inauguration next-week by Canadian Pacific Airlines of scheduled air service between this city and Vancouver. Back in 1907 or so the first scheduled steamship runs, were started to Prince Rupert. Seven or eight years later there was railway communication with the outside world. Nearly three years ago we achieved highwayconnection. Now it is scheduled air service official this time ater a season of more or less ; , regular service on charter basis. To be-able to be- in Vancouver four hours or so after leaving Prince Rupert and vice versa, making the trip one day and returning the next, will be a boon to local business which with reasonable fares now provided, will, doubtless, be used to such an extent that one eighteen-passenger plane a day r""V soon wiirnot be sufficient. Then, when an air strip I is. established here, it will be possible to. further L: J speed, up the service with.. even, larger and more TZ'. comfortable planes. Now we have the scheduled passenger service, the next thing will be the mail and there isj-eason to suppose that it will not be long deferred. We Jiave been a long time waiting for our regu? lar air service Its establishment at this time-syn-chronizes well with the new era of development which is evident at every hand as far as Prince Rupert is concerned and Avhich everybody is recognizing. Isolation was at one time regarded as one of Prince Rupert's handicaps. The establishment of air service on a permanent and regular basis just - about completes the removal of that handicap. !f 2ft GOOD WORK, GYRO CLUB POSSIBLY -a few, words of commendation might not be out of placefor the Prince Rupert Gyro Club which has been engaged in children's playground development and providing supervised play-, ground, activities .during the summer for so many years that it has coma to be taken almost a matter of course. Other organizations may come and go in doing something on behalf of the children of the city but the Gyro Club, which pioneered such work more than twenty years ago now, seems to go on forever. This year the Gyros have budgeted for over $600 . . in connection with playground work and the figure. I will probably gp to a good deal more than that particularly if further playground development, which is being considered, should be proceeded . with. In addition to all that; the club has made-an b institution of Its $600 per year toward the operation of recreational activities and physical education classes within the Civic Centre. So it is not inappropriate that we should congratulate the Gyro Club . on its consistent and valuable activity and' express an appreciation of work which while-it might at times seem to be. talven for granted, is none the less, we are sure, appreciated by all the community. PAYING FOR ANTICIPATION PRINCE RUPERT was not entirely without a few hopeful folk who held Irish sweepstake tickets or at least an interest in , same. They won.nothing but, with-a good: deal of - philosophy told their friends that, if Lady Luck Neglected to come their way, it was worth a few dollars to picture what they would have done had they actually made a financial-killing. Happy anticipation may be worth a few dollars in cash after all.
