Now the first ships are expected to start. operating about August 1. -United States losses in all services were about 328,000 dead and the bodies of about 275,000 are identifiable and removable. The quartermaster general's branch, responsible for all services, expects next-of-kin to ask the return or transfer of 80 percent. Only 61 percent of the dead in the First World War were brought home at request of kin. Reason for the larger number of requests now is believed to be Ihc fact the bodies are scattered Jn such widespread fashion In remote places. KH-The New Zealand government is con' verting iome of its latter locomotives to ifuel oil in an aUenrpt to restore railway timetables which have been restricted since the war owing to shortage of coal. Before the war New Zealand imported large quantities of coal from Australia but postwar shortage of shipping, mining strikes and the greater Aus tralian demand have held track i shipments. Endeavors to obtain supplies from United States and Canada have been only partly successful. Two locomotives converted to fuel oil burning as a trial have .been so suc-cesiul that 20 more are to be converted. Eventually It is hoped to have sufficient burning fuel oil to enable 'lull services to bo restored. Irish-born George, who scrv ed in the Canadian Army during the Second World War, met an acquaintance aboard ship while going on one of his leaves, After some conversation he asked the name of his new friend, "George Sayers," the stranger replied. "I didn't ask you my name I want to know yours," the Kitchener man said a bit crossly. But the other man's name was the same. When the ship docked the Canadian soldier told his acquaintance he wanted to Intro J duce him to a friend. The soldier's new-found acquaintance gasped when the introductions were made and found that the Belfast man also was named GCorge Sayers. None of the three Is related.
