Seldom has Prince Rupert been accorded the privilege of enjoying an artiste of the talent and ac- corapushment or Miss White The audience last night was ful some in its appreciation, and rightly so, of the highly endowed Halifax girl who is still only In her twenties. Her listener? ere transported to i heights of musical delight with Miss White's exacting and generous program which ranged through damatlc arias, lyric ballads, lieders and spirituals. Exponent of th style of singing known as the "lxl canto," tier unusual range from deep con tralto and near mezzo-soprano is accompanied by an unusual volume of tone exercised with lare taste which reflects of in tensive training and assiduous voice exercise. She was as facile in rare, dulcet tones as in the powerful full register of the typical contralto. Singing in ho less than four languages English, Italian. German and French and with French-Canadian and Nego dialects, the listener was impressed with the fine articulation and diction of the artiste every word and phrase was so distinct and clear. But added to that is Miss White's delightful entry with dramatic elocution into the spirit of every number. It is easily understandable why this talented girl, in spite of her youth, has already been placed In the front rank of contemporary singers. It was a lengthy program which Miss White offered but so delightful was it all that, after a full two hours, her audience would gladly have stayed on for more. The climax was a group of Negro folk songs and spirituals which resulted in a demand for encores given as numerously as those which were listed on the program. vi Outstanding Items ofith:-satlle program wereM8iBK'i aria In Italian "Non Fiorl" with Its low scaksd ; exultant crescendo, typleflily: contralto; the Germanu'lLitftiiey aud das Fest Allers Seeten.ln' 'which fine tones wereiaolmenly; depicted In adequate;itetbf j voice quality and preclslofffbf pitch; the whimsical Schubert "Lachen and Welnen" (Laughins and Weeping), done with fine understanding; Schubert's pow I n 1 1 1 1 I Smart . . . attractive . . . to harmonize wllti any tecorattve m-Iii'ihc . . .
