Douglas, a "member of the Royal Commission on Pcpulation, gave these figures and added that one mother in four among manual workers has a child at home usually over crowded compared with one in 10 for white collar workers and oi;e in 20 for the nrofcssional and employer class. "You would expect equality of treatment in the same kind of institution," said Dr. Douglas, "but the facts arc that although the majority of better-off women have their own doctors, oth- rs rely mainly on midwives."
