Tom Mobraaten, perennial holder of various titles, and present Dominion J umping champion, learned Monday afternoon of Prince Rupert Ski Club's recently acquired cabins on Mount Hays and the idea interests him so much .that he plans to visit them. "It sounds as though you have an ideal set-up, better than most' places in the province," he said after Ski Club President Allan i Armstrong had recited the story of the cabins at the 1,200-foot Columbians Bill and Bert Irwin level of Mount Hays which were of Princeton bought from War Assets Corporation last fall. Mr. Mobraaten who is spend ing the summer as a halibut! fisherman aboard the Vancou ver boat Steveston III, plans to visit the cabins the next time he Is in port. He is sailing tomorrow for the grounds. Last winter, Tom won the Western ski jumping championship at Revelstoke with a 180-foot leap, then went on to Mont Ste. Anne, Quebec, to win the Dominion championship with 167-foot jump. Distance Is not the only fac tor judged In ski jumping, he explained to a reporter who has seen more skis behind sporting goods store windows than he has on the snow. He has held the Dominion, western Canadian and Northwest championships several times. Last winter he won second place In the Northwest cham pionship meet at Leavenworth, Washington, with a 246-foot jump. He comes by his skiing honestly enough. In Norway, he was entering tournaments at the age of 16 and was one of the first Norwegian skiiers to jump more than 100 meters. That was a big jump is those days. "Skiing has come a long .way since I was 16," he said. He is married, and has two children who are taking to the waxed boards practically auto- MAY CALL OFF KING'S PLATE TORONTO Owing to a dispute between race track author!, ties and horse owners over the division of purses, there Is a possibility that the celebrated King's Plate race may be called off this year.
