Gardening Interest , UNLESS there is a sufficiently large attendance at tonight's annual general meeting to make apparent a reasonable measure of interest, Prince Rupert Horticultural Association will probably go by default for another season. Meantime, the executive is making an earnest appeal for Prince Rupert gardeners to turn out and keen the Association alive by offering their leadership and assistance. In a community that professes a desire to be 'Beautiful and attractive, the function that a strong and well organized Horticultural Association can play is not difficult to estimate. It does not take much imagination to see how important it can be. Those already interested in gardening can find therein a common meeting ground for their mutual benefit What is more important they can get others interested in gardening and beautifica-tion all of which is to the good for the community. It certainly does not speak very well for a city that cannot get enough gardeners together to keep .such an organization alive, particularly here in 'Prince Rupert which has been described as "The Garden City of the North." One of the satisfying things about gardening Jys that one can spend as little energy or money as one wishes. Unlike some strenuous hobbies, this one is elastic. There is scope for the most elabo-; rate planning and designs, for an immense amount of exercise if one feels that way.. On the other hand, if time or health are limited, or if one feels : like loafing, then one ran have a garden to suit : that mood, too. One cannot say that a small flower garden Is less beautiful than a large one, but there It is really amazing "the results in satisfaction and beauty gardeners, can get from a tiny plot of flowers. And they will not take much work either. A little digging and a few packets of seeds or boxes ,-of started plants are all that are needed. If one nas more time it can be enlarged and, as ones interest grows, more' frills can be added. BETTER DAYS PRINCE RUPERT, which was described in the Legislature as a "neglected city" and which has certainly not gone forward according to the promises of forty odd years ago, seems at last to have had a break. It is to have a great industry. The provincial government has persuaded the Celanese Corporation of America to establish a plant on Watson Island, eight miles from the city, . and to spend $15,000,000 on buildings and equipment. Approximately 1000 men will be employed in the woods .and the mill, thus establishing quite an important payroll for Prince Rupert. An interesting feature of the bargain with the Celanese Corporation is the corporation's undertaking to, maintain the forest area allotted to it in nernetuitv. Thus while forests will ; .will grow, the plant on Watson Island, it is prom-! ised, will keep on rolling along. ; Prince Rupert has tried grain, exporting and ; has tried shipbuilding. They have not proven very satisfactory. Its fishing industry has been better. '. Now it is to have pulp which mav prove the be-1 ginning of better days. ! Vancouver Province. WINGING THEIR WAY TO SCHOOL The Lunsford boys, Richard and Gordon, will never be late for school if their mother, Mrs. Sarah Lunsford, Atlanta, Ga., has anything fa say about it. Mom, who is a licensed pilot, flies her boys to school in the family sky bus. She says that the bad roads in her section of Cobb county (Georgia) makes the plane about the only means of getting the youngsters to school in time and without muddy feet.
