(JAY To no section of the community did the news of the tragic death of Bobby Houston come with more sickening force than to the lovers and supporters of sports in the city. The sporting community has lost its brightest jewel. From his first days at Borden Street School, all through his school career and later in (city competition and In the forces, Bobby was known as a good sport, ins name was synonymous with the highest tra- I ditlon of sportsmanship. A nat-Jural athlete, he took part In i many varieties of sport and excelled in them all. His talent was admired by teammate and opponent alike. Skill in every department of the game coupled with the fullest measure of team work made him imaluable to a team. No captain oi team manager could ask for a mdre loyal player. He played where he was wanted and always gave of his best. Perhaps it was when the going was hardest that he shone the most. He was always cool He played hard, he played clean. Ana aiways mere was tne smile of the true sport. He was the ref eree's ideal -player. Decisions were taken without Question and he went on "playlnc the irame." I can still see him in tennis Rames when, instead of claiming his fhot as a good one. his re mark to his opponent or the um pire was "How was It?" Our hearts go out to his wife his children and his parents and orotner. Our best chosen words in such times are feeble. But we would like to hope that the knowledge that Bobby was such a prnd sport, that he was ac claimed by all as such, by his opponents no less than by his fellow players, may be some son-solation to them. His winning of the "Good SportsmaTiship 'trophy this spring was the tribute of the citizens of Prince Rupert. I know that he treasured It and the spontaneous burst of applause with which the announcement was greeted must have assured him of the respect of us all. Perhaps the authorities would consider renaming the trophy Johnny's Snack Bar' (Under New Management) NOW OPEN EVENINGS Coffee Waffles Lunches "A Pleasure to Serve You" Three sailings Per Week for VANCOUVER VICTORIA SEATTLE (ALL TIMES SHOWN DAYLIGHT SAVING) Tuesdays, 1:30 pjn Coquitlam.
