SCHOOL
WINS
Driving
at
killing
speed,
the
two
powerhouses
of
the
Senior
"A"
Basketball
League
fought
through
four
furious
quarters
before
a
howling
crowd
in
last
night's
Savoy
and
High
School
mix-up
at
the
Civic
Centre.
It
was
not
until
the
dying
seconds
of
the
game
that
the
students
were
assured
of
victory.
The
final
score
was
45-36
with
the1
High
S:hool
leading
all
the
way.
Although
they
had
the
lead
throughout
the
game
the
Savoy
squad
were
always
breathing
down
their
necks
close
behind.
The
game
was
fast
and
furious
with
the
two
rivals
battling
each
other
for
the
win.
Leading
15-11
at
the
end
of
the
first
quarter
the
students
had
to
move
to
keep
out
In
front
and
In
the
second
quarter
they
stepped
right
out
and
left
the
Savoy
five
even
farther
behind
26-16.
But
this
was
as
far
as
the
hotelr
men
would
let
them
go.
After
the
much
needed
breather
Savoy
speeded
up
the
pace
and
crept
within
three
points
of
the
students
before
the
lads
of
green
and
gold
could
get
started
again.
At
the
three-quarter
mark
the
score
was
36-31
with
the
Savoy
squad
pounding
hard.
Then,
just
after
the
fourth
quarter
got
.'.started
and
as
their
last
period
-drive
was
under
way
tragedy
struck
the
hotelmen
when
Joe
Davis
was
sent
to
the
showers
with
five
personals.
This
took
the
wind
from,
the
Savoy
sails
momentarily
and,
while
they
.were
collecting
themselves,
the
students
moved
out
In
front
stiil
farther.
With
time
against
them
and
minus
one
of
the
star
players
the
Savoy
began
to
get
clicking
again.
But
before
they
knew
it
the
bell
sounded
with
the
score
standing
at
45-36
and
the
students
chalking
up
their
third;
straight
win.
The
two
officials
in
this
game
had
a
tough
time
cut
out
for
themselves
in
refereelng.
It
was
fast
and
close
'but,
by
calling
what
they
saw
and
when
they
saw
it,
Jack
Lindsay
and
Fred
Calderone
kept
this
game
well
under
control.

crumbling
defenses

Sixteen
quintet

tune.
The
Sweets
fought
hard
but
were
unable
to
cope
with
the
stronger
Rainbird
offense,
and
from
the
opening
quarter
the
stndents
were
way
out
in
front.
By
the
end
of
the
first
quarter
the
co-eds
were
leading
10-3.
Sweet
Sixteen
f'll
still
farther
behind
by
the
half
with
the
score
standing
at
23-7.
The
third
stanza
was
by
far
the
best
for
the
Sweets
when
they
held
down
the
Birds
to
a
mere

points
while
they
managed
to
net

But
with
the
start
of
the
last
quarter
the

their
rivals
and
came
pounding
into
the
final
second
