'iSoBi ALTO CAMP HERE TRAFFIC of outside cars into Prince Rupert WITH over the Skeena River Highway reaching sizeable proportions this season more and more cars from all parts of the continent now being seen daily the opportunity for the establishment of an auto camp here becomes increasingly apparent. Almost every tourist arriving by road inquires: where is the auto camp? Its absence is one of the most obvious accomodation lacks here. One of these days somebody is going to realize the need and opportunity of an auto camp here and is going to do something about it Possibly, it will be somebody from outside rather than somebody already here. Prince Rupert business people seem hardly highway-conscious yet. ALBERNI BUILDS HOTEL PLANS ARE BEING got out for a new $250,000 community-built hotel at Port Alberni where a puty mill is going in, a plant not nearly as large as that which is to be established at Prince Rupert liy the Celanese Corporation of America. It will lie a completely fireproof building containing eighty rooms, ballroom and private banquet room. If Port Alberni can get going on a new hotel like this, it would seem that something likewise at Prince Rupert might be done. The need can be no greater there than here. CHURCHILL AND RUPERT THEY HAVE STARTED filling the 250,000-I bushel grain elevator at Churchill on remote Hudson's Bay again and ships will be moving in there by August to take it out. This raises the old question what is it that Churchill has that Prince Rupert has not and permits grain shipping from there while Prince Rupert's grain house goes empty, idle and ghostlike year after year? Certainly it is not that Churchill is a more accessible or safer or better-equipped port than Prince Rupert Last year they told us that grain could not be shipped through Prince Rupert because it was wet wheat and drying facilities were not adeauate. We are wondering what excuse they will be able to hatch up this year. it wished to have them torn down. The council met in committee or the whole after the session, to discuss the proposals and will meet again in open session tonight, possibly to give a decision. Sale price of the houses here could not be estimated by Mr. Eack, who told the council that this could notb determined until after the signing of the agreement, when an appraiser would be sent In to set values. However, the terms of sale which are standard in ether communities were ouWnea oy the Crown corporation Down payment to a tenant Durchasing a wartime house would be 10 per cent of Its appraised iule price, he said, and if the tenant remained In the house for five years, he would receive a rebate of 17l2 per cent- of the price. Interest payment would be at the rate of 4V2 P cent. However, payments can be amortized over a 20 year period. This is made possible to enable the purchaser to pay for the house on a rental cost basis. "We want to arrive at a value that the average man can affordnot an infkitei value," Mr, Back asserted. "There will be no high pressure tactics. If a man wants to buy, he can buy, otherwise he can continue to rent. We are also trying to keep the pay ments down to the present rent level." The aldermen considered the offer to sell the Conrad Street School to be attractive but considered that the inclusion of RusbSrook Heights in the abetment as undesirable. "I'm afraid we cannot differentiate between that part of the proect and any other," Mr. Back concluded.
