SNAKE ROOM IN OPEN AIR Story at Kitselas "Bug House" Island Recalled A few miles above Terrace and near the foot of the Kitselas Canyon there is a pork-chop Kitselas was born because it was a natural stopping place for the river steamers carrying supplies up country to the rail construction camps. At certain stages of the river level the boats couldn't get up the canyon so their loads had to be toted overland frcm Kitselas to the head of the Canyon and reloaded on another boat thtt operated from there to Hazelton. Even when the steam-rs could winch their way through the canyon, they had to stop at Kitselas for cordwood and let any nervous passengers off they could walk across. Being a wide-open town, Kitselas always had a good supply of "llcker" and plenty of adven- turous characters t6 drink It. Under this combination it was cured.
