WE GET AIR SERVICE OF A LICENCE for a scheduled GRANTING tiir service between Vancouver and Prince Ru- lert something which we have long waited for' and something which the Prince Rupert Cham ber of Commerce has been active in promoting is announced. Very soon, within the next few weeks, we have been given reason to believe the new service marking an epoch in British Columbia coastal transportation will have been commenced. We will all be very pleased at tlutinstitution of this new modus .of carrying passengers and express which is all the licence, as it now stands, encompasses. The full function of the service will not be effective, however, until provision has also been made for the carrying of mails. It is to be .hoped . that there will -be no -delay in the carrying also of the mails by air. Lack of such an air mail service has long been a handicap to Prince Rupert in carry- , ing on its business with the outside world. With air mail between here and Vancouver, it Will be possible for us to write a letter here today and have it delivered into Toronto or Montreal bv tomorrow night.- Now the very best we can do issonie fifty-six hours. The same, of course, will also go for -passengers and express now that we are at long last 'to, b? given the scheduled service between Prince Jiunertand "Vancouver. v Next step in bringing us;a fully modern trans-'porlation service will be the establishment of a landing field locally to supplement the seaplane base which we already possess and which, it is to be assumed, .wilMie retained. Steps are also being 'ilij with that end in view. : y. STRIKES KEYNOTE t ....' Mr. Cockshutt spoke not onjy for nations but for individuals. If free enterprise is to prevail, it must, indeed, be geared to provide that security. There must not only be freer trade and relationships nation between nation but man between man. There must be at least some measure of removal of the - elercnts of predation and aggression and the sub- - stitution therefore of mutual satisfactions and un- .v derstandings. - . , McLean can count himself as something of a pioneer here for he wa with Foley Welch & Stewart, contractors, during dry deck construct. an days. Brett Reports On Recent House Session William Brett M.L.A reported to a prtbllc meeting in tire Civic Centre last night on the work done by the recent session of the provincial legislature during; which he had sicken mainly on co-operatives and the fishing industry, '"the mainstay of the majority of the people of this constituency." Speaking to an audience of 50 under chairmanship of Mrs. M. M, Roper, local C.C.F. club president. Mr. Brett analyzed the legislation parsed at last session, comparing the resulting bills with policies of the C. CF. and with legislation on similar, issues in Saskatchewan. Bill 39" he brairded as the "most reactionary it-gislatkm passed by any frovernmcnt on Btttnpt by big business to defeat the rpread of trade union ism." "Even BH1 Smith, member for Atlin, voted in favor of tWs bill," .Mr. Brett declared."! won der what the miner up at Premier and Stewart think of their representative now." Labor Minister Pearson was browbeaten" Into presenting the bill by the Tory faction, Mr. Brett asserted. The Tory element "dominates the coaliWon to the disadvan-ts"e of good government."' he said, and quoted an item from a Vancouver newspaper which criticized the government for lark cf .frankness In confining all discussions to private caucus. Thc Tory and Liberal elements are continually at los-ee' heads on public Issues, he ehaned.
