minister

finance
to
abolish
or
reduce
the

luxury
tax
on
Jewelry

the
budget
Mr.
Bulger,
who
returned
yesterday
from
a
business
trip
to
Vancouver
and
Seattle,
states
that
jewelers
in
the
south
were
hoping
that
there
would
be
an
amelioration
of
the
tax,
the
existence
of
which,
they
are
con
vinced,
has
been
slowing
up
their
business
and
will
continue
to
do
.so.

he
.said,
sales
were
bein'r
lest
because
prospective
purchasers
balked
at
the
luxury
tax.
Jewelry
sales
were
also
slow
In
Seattle,
Mr.
Bulger
found,
but
because
of
a
gen
end
slowing
up
of
buying
at
high
prices.

Jewelry

Seattle
there

a
20
per
cent
tax
In
addition
to
8
per
cent
sales
tax
and
3
per
cent
token
tax
general
on
all
commodities.

noted
that
prices
for
meals

considerably
