It was a wise decision which an enthusiastic and large public meeting of citizens of Prince Rupert took last night to support the provincial food relief campaign as instituted by the Vancouver Board of Trade at the request of Premier Byron Johnson. WILLIAMS carrying out the plumbing and Marooned at the mill were Mr. I and Mrs. Marcel Gardy, who had gone there two weeks before, and Mr. and Mrs. Jackson and their four children. The Gardys came to Prince Rupert Tuesday but the Jacksons are remaining. "AH we had to eat was canned stuff from the store," said Mr. Gardy. "I don't want to see canned food again for a long time." Mr. Gardy, who said that he had been millright, and Mr. Jackson boomed the mill logs tightly and prepared the machinery as best they could to withstand the flood. As a result, no logs were lost and mill damage apparently will not be great. They moved all furniture to the second floor of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Little's residence, there by saving it from water dam age. Mr. Little, who was at Terrace when the flood struck the mlH, brought in supplies at the weekend when he went down in a boat to pick up his i6wer barge at the mill. Mr. and Mrs. Gardy, a young couple who had expected to spend the summer there, rowed from the mill to Kwinitsa sta tion where they planned to take i the train to Prince Rupert today. Instead they got a ride by car yesterday. I WATER LEVEL IS 1 DOWN THREE FEET Water level at the mill and ! at Kwinitsa Tuesday was down almost three feet from its crest; level, baring almost a mile of road beyond Kwinitsa station. ' However, water still channels down the highway half a mile west of Little's sawmill. The portion of the road that was bared yesterday sunerea comparatively small damage from the flooding. Silt is piled in several places and in three places, huge deadfall logs have been deposited on the ro.id. However, wh.t damage has been done farther east will not be known until the water recedes further. ' ; Railroad section crews have already cleared the roadbed of silt deposits where the track has emerged from the water. NARROWLY MISSED TOMB STRATFORD-ON-AVON, Eng. ' Now that the campaign has been set in motion here, we. would urgently commend it to the most generous support of the citizens individually and would suggest that local organizations devise all ways and means possible to raise funds for the need.
