Up to 10 years ago fluorine was regarded as a health hazard. This chemical, found in the drinking water in at least 200 areas In the United States, was known to cause mottled teeth. These green-brown spots disfigured teeth permanently, but this misfortune happened only to children who drank the water continuously for years. The damage was done only under the age of 12. After that teeth became immune to flourine damage. Just about 10 years ago a scientist poking around with some rat teeth experiments noticed that animals with teeth mottled from flourine had less decay than usual.
