Photo 1 BASKETBALL Hopes For High Fade Unlikely to Get In Play Offs North Star Cinches Junior Co-op- 521, Bo-MeHI- Merchants 30, Morgans 23 North Star 30, HiRh School 21 Hopes of Bo-Me-Hi taking over third place and a. playoff berth in the Senior League Basketball were set back Saturday night as the Co-op squad pounded out a 52 to 42 win over the fast running Rainmaker quintet. In the Intermediate game Merchants dimmed the chances of Morgans getting- into the playoffs with a 30-25 win over the fourth placers. ' In the Junior game the North Star win -over High School decided the first place team in the div ision. j The Bo-Me-Hl team came from behind in the second half I to battle Co-op in the final ! quarter which saw the score j tee-saw in the first 7 minutes i and then the Students' defence 1 weakened and the veteran : hoopsters Lindsay, Beynon and Macphee poured through to incore repeatedly and gave the j Co-ops a lead that held until ! the final whistle, j The first quarter was fast , with both teams, long on ball : handling but short in the scor ing column. Macphee spearheaded, the ; Co-op attack and defence in the half that saw them in the lead at intermission .21-14. The absence of shooting in the .second, quarter by Bo-Me-Hi held down their scoring. They stressed ball handling which, of., course, dres not give baskets. During the intermission the Rainmakers must have been shown their mistakes, as the third quarter started they came right out and tied up the score 'and then battled Co-op the remaining minutes of the quarter that saw them emerge i' 1 m iliiil DSHD I V Phone 654 JSc pr dorn ptii lot tmpllti labeled by any 8 C. The teams played on even terms during the first 7 minutes of the quarter beiore the Rainmaker guards seemed to lose their checks repeatedly and this, of course, is a dangerous thing to do with the Co-op as they pounced in and sewed up the game: In the final minutes Co-op lost Dominato. Lindsay and Beynon and they had to play the last half minute with 4 players on the floor. Scoring was the only low Uo-Mf-Hi suffered. The Rainmakers were poor on their bucket shootint and had to rely on their long banders from the sides and corners.
