Yet there are many blessings that we may count this Christmas Eve. In this fair land of Canada, in this fine citv of Prince Rupert, we have much to be thankful for. We are all so well off here, so free, so well provided for that we may not realize what the people of the most of the rest of the world are going through. "Merry Christmas" to many may seem a mockery today. There are those who live in fear and despair, in poverty arid oppression. For these Christmas is just another . cold and empty day. So, as we count our blessings, may we not be ungrateful. May we not.be thoughtless of those less forunate than we h;Jj)py people. While we enjoy our merriment, our happiness and our gratification, may we resolve- to make our appreciation a living-thing. May we be searching not on this day but every day for some means of radiating: our generosity, goodwill and consideration to those both at home and abroad less blessed than we. As we look at a still troubled world today, a world of distrust, hate, envy, may we recall that this Christmas Day is the birthday of that Personage whose final command was: "Go Ye, therefore, and teach all the nations." That is the inspiration. That is the cause of Christmas. May we not lose sight, therefore, as we celebrate and enjoy ourselves among our friends that there is an implication of duty beyond our own intimate orbits to act and serve so that our communities, our nations and our world may lie the better for the observance of this great day. A year ago we declared that never before was this world in greater need of the true spirit of Christmas. That declaration, ive must admit, holds as good todav as it . iid then. CHRISTMAS DINNER THIS FAVORITE Christmas story deals I with the editor who found himself working Christmas Day on the edition for the following morning. Summoning one of his reporters he said : "Evans, get me a good story on how people spend Christmas. A real sentimental tory on what the less fortunate are having for Christmas dinner. Go down to the mission and see what the poor old men are getting to eat. Then drop around to the orphanage and ask if the little tykes are getting anv turkey. After that "try the Y.M.C.A. hostel. I'll bet they don't get turkey and cranberry sauce. Yeah, you might look in at the Old Peoples' Home and do a bit on their dinner too. "That's all, but make it good. Make our . readers glad they are fortunate enough to have Christmas turkey at home.
