They met, in the police court chamber In the city hall which had been made available by Mayor Arnold to the recently-formed Home Makers' League whose avowed intention is to halt the stratospheric rise of commodity prices. - The meeting was called by Mrs. Ross Richardson, who invited members of various city organizations to attend in the hope that they would persuade their members to sign petitions arging the government to bring back controls. Suspicion of Communism raised its head when a delegate asked Mrs. Richardson whether or not she had ascertained a Vancouver consumers' group which she had contacted for information, had communistic tendencies. It is wise to follow the rules, measure accurately and wateh the oven temperature. Cinnamon Snaps 1 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1 cup molasses 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons grated lemon rind 5 cups sifted all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon '2 teaspoon salt Cream shortening with sugar, add molasses, lemon juice "and grated rind. Sift two cups of flour with socia, cinnamon and salt and add to first mixture. Gradually work in remaining flour to make a stiff dough. Turn onto slightly floured board, roll out very thin, cut in desired shapes and bake in a moderate oven, 350 degrees F., for 10 minutes. Yield: About 5 doz. cookies 2" diameter.
