Clearly, the first day's performances revealed a vast fund of talent in varying stages of development and time and training are the ingredients which may place it in a position to bring cultural honors to the city and district in outside competitions through the years.- However, satisfying as the performances are, there is another aspect worthy, 01 cheefui note. That is the response of the citizens to the festival. In view of the large number of other activities that have been drawing good crowds in recent weeks, it is vastly encouraging that yesterday's performances should have been made to capacity houses, both afternoon and evening. This clearly indicates that there is a real hunger in this community for this type of artistic expression. This phenomenal community response is a thing that the players and musicians can cherish in the long, often wearisome rehearsal periods that are a necessary part of creative work. In this fertile and fortunate land, the Ust of everything is accepted as a matter of ; course. The idea of consuming that faithful old plug over there or some sleek, fast stepper, or the pal you so often slung a saddle over, is too much like cannibalism. In short, the suggestion is revolting. But it's not that way in parts of Europe. It is the truth to say that in various parts of he world, people are on the verge of starvation, and . there is not much to encourage the expectation of any easing of conditions.
