Against sixty-one candidates,, some of them much older than himself, he won the Bach trophy for highest marks in executing the works of thai classical master. He was also a close runner-up to the winner of the senior championship in general pianoforte. Adjudicator John Sterling commended him for "very fine musicianship, sensitivity and character in his playing." The picture shows him with hs Bach Trophy and other certificates of achievement at the festival.
