The king of spades was opened and Mr. Abel made the right play, over-taking with the ace and returning his small spade. Mr. Masters won two more spade tricks, on the last of which Mr. Abel discarded the four of diamonds. He then shifted to a small diamond and dummy's ace won. Mr. Champion cashed the king of hearts, then led the trey and finessed his eight spot. He got the good news that the queen was right but the bad news that it was well-guarded. TRUMPS GOOD QUEEN There was still a chance to make the hand and Mr. Champion entered dummy with the king of diamonds, returned the queen of diamonds and trumped it! "The queen was GOOD." whis pered Mr. Muzzy happily. "So Is my play," Mr. Cham pion growled Mr. Abei naa aiscaraea a ciuo 1 on the last trick and Mr. Cham pion now entered dummy again with the ace of clubs. He led back the jack of diamonds and ruffed that, too. On this trick Mr. Abel discarded his next-to- last club. Dummy was entered for the last time with a club and here , everybody was down to two 1 cards. Mr. Abel had the one- guarded queen of hearts and Mr. Champion had the ace and j Skeena Member Urges Nationa Library, Soon E. T. Applewhaite, MP., gave a broadcast last evening speaking from Ottawa. The member for Skeena gave particular attention to the question of a national library for Canada. The need, he says, has been evident for many a year. The time has come, said Mr. Applewhaite, when instead of recommenda tions, there ought to be action. He mentioned having had a ' recent conversation with Hon. C. D. Howe. Minister of Trade, and of the latter's satisfaction to realize the increasing scope of j grain shipping at Prince Rupert. There's a story floating round trade union branches in Lan- cashire about the union bfiicial I who had a suspicious wife. On one occasion he stayed out all I night "on union business." He i said he had missed the last train, and had had to, stay the niyhtl with one of his ' members all men. ' j So his doubting SDouse found : a list of branch members and sent all 250 of them a telegram: "Did my husband stay with you1 last night?" and prepaid replies.. By return she received 250 tele. grams. They all said : "Yes." Which , speaks well for trade union solidarity. .
