Mr. Haig-llrown'.s idea is that a Ministry of Recreation should be created. The department he has in mini would have responsibilities for the attractions of this province which are now scattered haphazardly into various branches. The parks division, for example, is under the department of lands and forests. There is a game department attached to the attorney-general's office. The tourist bureau is in the department of trade and industry. The result is a confused administrative system in which none of these agencies is effectively correlated with the other. What this means, in effect, is that one of the most valuable assets of the province its natural .appeal for the traveller and sportsman is being rated far below its real worth. As a result, there is no such thing as centralized supervision of R. C.'s wildlife, parklands, campsites, beaches, historic and scenic regions. If the ministry which Mr. Haig-Brown suggests did exist, perhaps there would Ite less apprehension now 'about disfigurement by flooding of areas in Twcedsmuir Park. It is even possible there would be greater con-corn for the value of Prince Rupert's museum. This is by no means a local consideration, although under the present system it is treated as such. Here is a collection of treasures as typical of the province as its forests and mountains which, given its due attention, would assume a distinguished place in the attractions of B. C. There are works of nature and man in B.C. which can never be replaced. Time will destroy them unless we choose otherwise. A Ministry of Recreation would do a great deal to implement such a choice.
