If the court allows allows the the .'innlicafir,n application, t-ho the in i- quiry will be delayed indefinitely. . Five justices of the nine-member Supreme Court yesterday heard arguments on the application for leave to appeal. Alphonse Patenaude, counsi 1 for some of the respondents in the inquiry, argued the Quebec court had erred in sauashinir the injunction that prohibited con- tinuation of the invesHtiotinn into enforcement of Montreal's anti-vice laws. The inquiry was organized on a petition by 73 Montreal citizens. The petition that set up the inquiry named 30 past and present Montreal officials, including police director Albeit Langlois, as respondents. : The inquiry was haiteel for a time by an injunction taken but on the ground that Mr. Jutice Francois Caron had no authority td conduct the i nvest.ipatinn The Supreme Court refused to consider litigation over that injunction and the inquiry was uue to resume again June 9. However, a new injunction obtained from Mi. Justice Louis ousineau oi the Queoec Superior Court. It ordered a halt, tn all proceedings on the grounds "1C inquiry was unconstitutional. The Quebec Court of Appeals ruled the injunction invalid and an effort was made to appeal that decision to the Supreme Court. In applying for permission to bring the case before the Supreme Court, Mr. Patenaude questioned the validity of Quebec legislation giving Mr. Justice Caron, conducting the in-(Continued on Page 8) ner s nana MAY be. There was no excuse for Mr. Muzzy trying for game on this nana, ins partner's passout of the original spade bid should have been warnine enouirh. A less important point was that tne King or clubs, which added to the "big" look of the South hand should have been discoun ted entirely after Mr. Master's overcall In the suit. Mr. Abel's two spade bid was. of course, not a raise, but simply an Indication that his hand was better for spades than for hearts. While it was tecnical!y correct, from the Humanics standpoint, I think a pass of the two-heart would have been justified in this particular case. In other words, playing with Muzzy, who never can differentiate be tween a choice and a raise, it would have been better to pass any bid that was not yet doubled. Mr. Dale opened his singleton club which was won by the ace. Mr. Masters returned his lone spade and Mr. Muzzy 's ten lost to the jack. Mr. Dales returned a low spade and Mr. Muzzy was in.
