Prince Rupert Daily News 5 Monday, June 8, 1953 THIS. OS MY r - . ' ' I l VS. i We hove oil heard of the Irishman who once said, "There are two sides to every story, and I want to tell you my two sides now!" In the issues set out before us at this election, there ore THREE sides and we, the voters, must decide which of these is in the best interest of British Columbia and our constituency. That choice is a serious responsibility, for upon the outcome of this election rests the future of 6.C and the welfare of its people during the next four years. Let us look at the election picture for o moment. What are the alternatives? t hi i t LIBERALISM as represented by the Liberal Party. SOCIALISM as represented by the C.C.F. Party. SOCIAL CREDIT as represented by the present Governrrtent. 1 . -r WILLIAM H. MURRAY WHAT DO THEY ALL MEAN TO BRITISH COLUMBIA? WHAT ARE THEIR RESPECTIVE POLICIES? HOW WOULD THESE POLICIES AFFECT BRITISH COLUMBIA, AND WE, THE PEOPLE OF THIS PROVINCE? LET US EXAMINE THEM AND SEE. Sfi LIBERALISM, a free enterprise policy Iconing heavily towards the "right." For as many years as I cm remember wc have had a Liberal Government, or a Liberal-dominated Coalition Government, in British Columbia, and what is their record? It is a dismal record of failure, of debt, of political patronage and inefficiency; We arc PROMISED so many things again in this election! Why didn't the Liberal Party fulfill all these wonderful promises during the many, many years they governed? Certainly they had ample time and opportunity to implement these reforms. But no, using the false, white-stuccoed front of NEW Liberalism they again hove the audacity to PROMISE, PROMISE, PROMISE! I know I have had enough of it! The people of British Columbia have had enouqh of it, and they mode no mistake obout showing that they had when they ground the Liberal Party to defeat at the election of 1952. Wc wi!! grind them to defect at the election of Juno j, 9th, 1953! 1 . . . ' i . ' ' ' ;. ' . ' : J - " .. ; , . ...... ' ' Oi SOCIALISM h a 'leftis;' policy untried in Brit'sh CotumVji a policy of taking over and operating industry by the Government. By no stretch of ; he imogination can the Socialist experiment work in British Columbia at this time.. We need people with money a great dcol of money to come into this Province and assist with its development. Such development as wc have seen during recent years would snap to a halt if o Social!: Government were to take office in British Columbia! Con you v sua'ize ANY Industry entering th's Provinco with the knowledge that the Government culd AT ANY TIME take it over? Of courss you can't! Think of our vost, untapped wealth of hydroelectric potent;!, forests, mines. How can they bo developed without Private Enterprise Private Enterprise to crcatj jobs and contribute to the wealth of the Province? No, Socialism is not the answer for British Columbia! For over twenty years the Socialists have tried to form a Government, but the people have turned them away. Wc have driven off the C.C.F. octopus and chopped savagely o( the Socialist tentacles that would have strangled our industrial development! The Socialists, when they had a good leader in Mr. Harold Winch, did not succeed. They will no! succeed with the inexperienced and newly-found substitute! . O SOCIAL CREDIT is a straight middlc-of-thc-rood pol'cy. It stands solidly for Free Enterprise but Free Enterprise without monopoly, without the political hond-outs wc hove seen in the post, without minority groups an honest, sincere group of men and women doing their "level best for British Columbia ond for its people. As SOCIAL CREDITERS we encourage Free Enterprise to develop our natural resources W. we ensure that the people of the Province shore to the extent of 10 of the profits above $25,000.00. Thus we ensure thai provision is made for the small businsss man to make a reasonable profit. Wc arc an EFFICIENT Government, for we are not only paying for expenditures out of current income, we are undertaking the largest Public Works Program in ths history of British Columbia ond at the same time reducing the Provincial Debt by no less than $33,000, 000. 0C. A PAY-AS-YOU-GO Government! An EFFICIENCY-WITH-ECONOMY Government! Those of you who know mr mul nftrr 30 years In this City, I know most of vou know iie 1.n be .kIihtip. despite the linnic-rnlling to which I alio' my niniiing-niatrs Imvc been subjected by our frustrated opponents. I sincerely believe (hut I can do a job for you In Victoria, for my years with the Government service have piver. me nn excellent grounding in Provincial Affairs. Certainly our previous representative has brought us nothing exactly nothlmj during ills brief, fruitless attendance in the Legislature! I bt;'.ovc Hint with a spirit of close i j-ope ration with the Chamber ot' Commerce of this'City and with the local heads of Provincial Departments, a great deal can be done to secure adequate expenditures being made on our Provincial projects in this constituency. i pledge myself to your service In this respect to work vigorously and in'.clligcntly with the help and co-operation of our Board of Trade towards the development and industrial progress of our District.
