fishing, is to be commended. Indeed, there may be
other areas which should also be closed,

Herring is a most important food fish for prac-
tically every fish that swims, including the King
salmon, which cuntribtites su much to the economy of
Ketchikan, via the trollers and the Ketchikan King
Salmon derby sport fishermen,

There should be a definite curtailment of herring
fishing for anything but bait. Use of herring for
fertilizer should be prohibited until such time as the
herring rus have been built up toa point where a
quota take could be instituted for fertilizer purposes,
