Since 1943 two attempts to destroy the rock have proved un- successful and finally the fed- eral government decided that underground tunnelling was the pest way to tackle the -job. Ripple Rock is in the southern entrance of the narrows, a body of water two miles long and about a half-mile wide, with Vancouver Island to the west ing in an all-out effort. to eliminate one of Canada’s Rock is Jack Buchanan. Between them they supervised about 70 miles through three shifts daily, working for the northern con- struction company and J. W. Stewart Limited of Vancouver, the contractors.
