Drivers Fined

At Port Edward

Wolfgang Weikert, 23, 727 Fra-
ser Strect, was fined $35 in Port
Edward police court yesterday
when he pleaded guilty to a
charge of driving without due
care and attention.

The charge was laid following
an accident on Highway 16 near
Tyee November 10 in) which
Weikert lost cgntrol of his car
and it went Into a ditch.

Also appearing on a charge of
driving without due care and at-
tention was Peter Crone of Miller
Bay. He pleaded gullty and was
fined $15.

Crone, 23, was charged as re-
sult of a collision October 26 four
miles from, Prince Rupert in
which his car and one driven by
S. D. Toth suffered a total dam-
inge of $200,

Thomas P. K. Fletcher, 29, of
Terrace, pleaded gullty to speed-
ing on Wighway 16 near Ollver
Lake October 30 and was fined
$15,

NEWPORT, Isle of Wight (CP)—Three honey

mooning couples and a child of nine today were among:

in the wreckage of a British flying boat. oe

near here Friday night minutes
after taking off for Portugal en
route to the sunny Madeira and
Canary islands.

Among the victims was stew-
ardess Angela’ Kitcher who
would have. been .22 today. It.
was. her first flight. “There
were 58 persons aboard. —

The four-engined Solent, own-
ed by British Aquila: Airways, de-
veloped engine -trouble. and
crashed.shortly after it took off
from Southampton for Lisbon,
Portugal, with 50 passengers and
a crew of eight. Many of the
passengers were beginning -vaca-
tions.

The dead included the entire
crew, two of them stewardesses.
Forty of the bodies were recov-
ered in the grey mist of morning.
