DAILY EDITION, No Return of German Monarchy. The new Government of Germany has satisfied the Allies that there is to be ‘no attempt to bring back the monarchy in Germany and that it will live up to the treaty terms. That would be reassuring if promises meant anything to German oflicials. Unfortunately we have already had a taste of what it means to place confidence in the reactionary powers of that country. Possibly there is no need for fear. Aft anyrate it is pretty sure that the Allied Governments are keeping in close touch with the situation. 2 ed Trial Date is Postponed. j= The trial date for the Erb-Mullen case, concerning the own- ership and control of the local shipyard has now been set at Api 7. It is presumed that if it can be shown to the satisfaction of the judge that a further delay is necessary, even a later date may yet be set. Happily for Prince Rupert the work is still going on and, so far as the city is concerned, there might be no lawsuit pending. Te, There will be a feeling of increased confidence in the place once this tangle is settled. There have been hints at further contracts, and if they are secured it means continued prosperity to the city. At anyrate we have the present benefit and the future will doubtless take care of itself. Fishermen Worried Over Exchange. Some of the fishermen who make this their home port, but who have their homes in Seattle are finding that they have to pay a large amount for the privilege of living on Puget Sound. They pay anything from twelve to twenty cents on the dollar exchange, according to the variations, and the idea is not a pleasant one, The way to get over the exchange problem is to build a house in Prince Rupert and live in it. The fishing industry is doubtless a permanency here and the more fishermen live here the more pleasant it will be for them and for everybody. Advertising Brings Results. Those who received copies of the Winnipeg papers when they were issued without advertising, on acéount of the shortness of paper will note how uninteresting they were. The advertising columns are more interesting than the news columns to many people, who are interested in what people have to sell because they are prospective buyers. Some people think it a good deal to spend $25 or $50 for an advertisement. Yet if the returns are commensurate with the expenditure, the money is well spent. Great interest is taken in the classified columns of a good many newspapers, and the Daily News is one of the interesting ones in that respect. Nearly everybody reads the classified ads. As the News covers this district pretty thoroughly, there is no Letter means of reaching people than by newspaper advertising.
